Round 15A smiling Mary Rhoades tells me that she and the other word judges have perfected a new exercise called the word judge lunge. Everytime they hear a challenge, they lunge towards the sound of the voice. Two times out of three, one of the other judges is closer and gets that challenge, but they all get the lunge exercise.
At table 1, Brett Smitheram (England) fell to Joel Wapnick (World Champion), 480-406. At table 2, Brian Cappelletto (United States) defeated Naween Tharanga Fernando (Sri Lanka) , 491-379.
A fun game at table 4. Adam Logan (Canada) defeats Andrew Davis (England), 473-349. Adam got down bIRDLIME though the I for 86, creating LA, MA, and EN parallel plays. He also got down BARKInGS for 107. Andrew played OILSEED for 74. Seeing Joe Edley (United States) sitting down at this table, I just assumed it was he who had played that game with Adam. And I offered my condolences to him for his loss. Oops. As it turns out, he'd just defeated another British Andrew, Andrew Perry (England), 453-390, at a nearby table.
At table 3, Pakorn Nemitrmansuk (Thailand) beat Bob Lipton (United States), 512-441. I notice ShAVINg for 93 and TRAINEES for 82 through the I. Who played what and how it unfolded is lost right now....
At table 7 Steve Polatnick (United States) defeats Howard Warner (New Zealand), 430-382. Steve had given the game up for lost, but he came back and won! Steve opened up with BONIE and was "rewarded" by Howard's play of CHORINE, hooking an R and creating BONIER for 72. Steve managed to play ANTIENTs through the I for 65, but he was still trailing Howard who had played LOONIEsT through the blank s for 66 points. Then magic hit four plays from the game's end, when Steve found and played GRIEVaNT from the G for 71 points. He also played QUAYD for 56.
Once again, we end this round with Joel Wapnick (World Champion) in first place with 13 wins and a giant +1126 spread. Adam Logan (Canada), Brian Cappelletto (United States), and Pakorn Nemitrmansuk (Thailand) are at 12 wins.
