The meeting was directed by Rebecca Slivka (Seattle, WA) and Ted Gest (Washington, DC). They arrived with an itinerary that was handed out to all attendees and they decided to forego introductions and lauch into the topics. As each speaker rose to speak, a self introduction was made. Joe Edley (Coram, NY) was the NSA representative there from the start with Jane R. Williams and John D. Williams, Jr., coming in a few minutes later. All the topics were covered with ease and there as even a bit of time leftover for frivolity! Chris Cree (Dallas, TX), the players' appointed Ombudsman congratulated Rebecca and the attendees for moving through the topics so swiftly. A few minutes later, John D. Williams, Jr., opened up the floor for the annual Town Meeting. About 70 people attended the meeting and topics revolved about a "letters to the editor" section of the newletter (space won't permit it) to where the next nationals will be (we don't know yet). To get more details, check out cgp or ask a friend who attended! Daniel Stock (Rocky River, OH) ran over to my table with a new 100 tile story about Robin Pollock Daniel (Toronto ON). So very sweet! So very creative! The birds were singing this morning as I walked from my room to the other side of the resort. I can tell it is going to be another scorcher! John D. Williams, Jr., did quick announcements again this morning, singling out both Jeff Widergren (Morgan Hill, CA) and Michael Thelen (West Jordan, UT) to thank them for their programs that are assisting us so mightily in the event. Jeff's TourneyMan and Mike's Zyzzyva. Terry Kang (Newington, CT) had a close game with Roy Kamen (Covina, CA) this game, losing, 420-427. Turns out she thought she'd emptied the bag on her last draw, but she only took 3 of the 4 tiles left. Only after she'd made what she thought to be an outplay was the final tile discovered. Thus her quick outplay of SAILS turned into a reply of VISE to the triple through the second S for enough points to put the game out of reach for her. I see Roy's CLEANINg and REEARNED. Terry played FINNIEST and REPRIEVE. Daniel Stock (Rocky River, OH) and Heather Drumm (Clinton, NY) had a barn-burner this round, but it was Heather's win, 517-453. Heather's bingos were ETESIAN, THREnoDY for 167 (a triple-triple), and RANKEST. Don played DUNITES, HEAPING for 97, and bingoed out with CAVILER for 83. Sharon Moser (Baltimore, MD) and Jacob Bergmann (Lexington, MA) had a fun game this round! She opened with ACQuIRE for 104 and he then played RESOLVED for 83. She put down EMACIATE for 78 and then he found HEX for 47. A bit later, he got down DALTONS for 89 and she responded with TERRAINs for 61. She knew what was in the bag and knew she would pay for that last bingo, and she did. Jake got down SIZAR down the triple for 50 points. The best thing? After she got the points from the tiles left in his rack, they TIED! 452-452! At the top table, Robin Pollock Daniel (Toronto ON) had a streamroller of bad time with Pakorn Nemitrmansuk (Thailand) as she was the pavement that game. She did find EXOGAMY for 40, OBJET for 51, and ZOOID for 50, it was all Pakron with plays like FALX for 23, PENTYL for 38, TANNINGS for 80, EAtERIES for 74, and ACETAmID for 149. Robin Pollock Daniel (Toronto ON) and Pakorn Nemitrmansuk (Thailand) are playing each other at Board 1 in Division 1. Steve Pellinen and Scott Smith are posting the game live. |
