So, the pastry mystery has been solved. The man behind the gesture is Jeremy Cahnmann (Chicago, IL). I've already given him a hug in person, but thanks to him here, too!

We've got a bevy of great assistants this time around. They are: div 1, Antoinette Sealy; div 2, Sue Hoehn; div 3, Christine Anderson; div 4, Emily Goodman; div 5, Sunshine Lewis; and div 6, Lisa Kessler.

Mark Landsberg (Laguna Woods, CA) was featured in the Orange County Register.

I walked by Orry Swift (Dayton, TX) as his game wound up against Nat Gardenswartz (Newton, MA). Orry kept hitting himself, repeatedly, in the head with a big wooden device. I was later to find out his fraternity brothers made this giant O tile for him and he uses it as a hard surface to write on during game play. The violent headbanging was due to Orry letting Nat go out and win the game, 353-328, by virtue of the tiles on Orry's own rack. Nat kept saying soothing things like, "we all do stupid things sometime, don't feel so bad."

Steve Polatnick (Miami, FL) tells me that he bingoed in his first four moves aginst Joe Edley (Coram, NY) and barely escaped with the win. The bingos were GODHEADS, TEAWAREs, MILTIER, and LIAISONs. Joe opened with ROUILLE and later played STREUSEL through the R, but it was Steve's win, 452-405.

Jim Kramer (Roseville, MN) and Robin Pollock Daniel (Toronto ON) are playing each other at Board 1 in Division 1. Steve Pellinen and Scott Smith are posting the game live.
