January 22, 2015 Canadian WESPAC 2015 Qualification System posted

Players interested in representing Canada at the 2015 WESPA Championship should follow the procedure given in the newly posted 2015 WESPA Championship Canadian Qualification System.

January 7, 2015 Release Date for 2015 National School SCRABBLE Championship

Hasbro has issued a brief announcement naming May 16-17, 2015 as the dates for the next National School SCRABBLE Championship

January 6, 2015 Dates announced for Official Tournament and Club Word List 2014, aka OTCWL3

The new lexicon will be released 60 days after a version of Zyzzyva that supports permitted use of the lexicon has been published. The release date will not be before April 1, 2015.

Until the new lexicon is released, the Official_Tournament_and_Club_Word_List for all non-Collins club and tournament events is OTCWL2.1, which adds GEOCACHE, -ES, -ED, -ING to the OTCWL2 issued in 2006.

November 8, 2014 Threes and Hooks List Published

A list of OTCWL2014 three-letter words and their hooks is now available in the documents section of Member Services.

August 1, 2014 Director Manual new formats available

The Publications Committee has posted the current (2014-05-20) edition of the Director Manual in .epub and .mobi (Kindle editions) for easy access on handheld devices.

July 31, 2014 OSPD5 release date changed

Merriam-Webster has announced that OSPD5 will go on sale on August 6, and not as originally planned on August 11. Copies of OSPD5 and TWL2014 will still be available at the 2014 National SCRABBLE Championship.

June 26, 2014: 2014 Can-Am SCRABBLE Challenge qualification standings posted

Can-Am qualification standings are now being updated automatically after each rated tournament. Players interested in participating should follow the event page instructions to register before the deadline.

June 24, 2014: New Word List to Take Effect on December 1

The NASPA Advisory Board has ratified December 1st, 2014 as the date on which the next edition of OTCWL will take effect. Copies will be available for sale to members at the 2014 National SCRABBLE Championship.

June 3, 2014: NASPA CSW Ratings revised

The NASPA Rating software has been updated so that it now automatically assigns initial ratings to players based on their existing rating in the other lexicon, if they have tournament experience but are new to CSW or TWL play. In conducting a thorough review of how the previous manual process had been implemented, we found several cases in which players had incorrectly been treated as entirely new to tournament play. We have therefore had to take the extraordinary measure of rerating all tournaments beginning at the earliest such incident (July 1, 2011) and proceeding to the present day. We apologize for the inconvenience; please understand that the measure was important for maintaining the consistency and accuracy of our rating system.

April 10, 2014: GEOCACHE wins the 2014 SCRABBLE Word Showdown

Hasbro announced on Good Morning America that GEOCACHE defeated ZEN to win the showdown. GEOCACHE will be acceptable at the 2014 National School SCRABBLE Championship and the 2014 National SCRABBLE Championship.

March 14, 2014: 2014 SCRABBLE Word Showdown Announced

Hasbro has announced the first ever SCRABBLE Word Showdown; this resulted in a few media hits for NASPA.

February 27, 2014: New Code of Conduct Posted

The NASPA Advisory Board approved a new version of the Code of Conduct. While the new CoC took effect on January 2, 2014, it was just posted to the NASPA wiki, so will only apply for any disciplinary matters arising after February 27, 2014.

February 23, 2014: More to Tweet About

Beginning this month, the Word of the Day and all rated tournaments will be automatically tweeted from the NASPA Twitter account, @NASPA.
