Michael Tang, the organizer of the Alchemist Cup, posted this message on June 30, 2020:

"Due to many uncertainties caused by COVID-19 pandemic, I am sorry to inform that Alchemist Cup 2020, which is supposed to be held from 2nd to 6th December 2020, will now be canceled. Please stay Safe and Healthy. Michael"

The 2020 Alchemist Cup was to be held December 2-6, 2020, at the Genting Highland Resort in Malaysia.

Information regarding the qualification process for Canadian and American players for this event is archived here for historical purposes:

In this elite invitational event organized by Michael Tang, ten teams of five players will play nine games per day for a total of 45 games.

The United States team of Conrad Bassett-Bouchard, Dave Wiegand, Evans Clinchy, Jesse Day, and Will Anderson came in second in the 2018 Alchemist Cup in Penang. Canadian Adam Logan played on the Rest of the World Team, which came in third.

Both the United States and Canada will field teams at the 2020 Alchemist Cup.

Updated Eligibility and Qualification Criteria - April 16, 2020

With tournament play currently suspended, the Advisory Board has lifted the 30 game requirement for those players currently registered and extended the end of the qualification period to September 30, 2020.

Eligibility

Members of the 2020 U.S. and Canadian teams will be selected by the NASPA International Committee according to the following criteria:

  1. You must be a U.S. or Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  2. You must remain a NASPA member in good standing throughout the qualification period, which runs from June 1, 2018, to May 31, 2020.
  3. You must not have been suspended for more than twelve months for any NASPA Code of Conduct violation.
  4. You must have played at least thirty NASPA-rated CSW games during the qualification period.

Qualification Process

Interested players will then be ranked by the arithmetic average of the ratings they achieve at the end of NASPA CSW tournaments during the qualification period.

The top five registrants from each country as of 11:59 p.m. Pacific time, May 31, 2020, will form the U.S. and Canadian teams.
