Eligibility

All participants must be NASPA members in good standing.

Canadian citizens and permanent residents are eligible.

Temporary residents (TRs) are eligible with the following restrictions:

  • TRs must reside in Canada for the entire qualification period.

Registering for the qualification process

Players wishing to register for the qualification process can do so by contacting any member of the Canadian Committee.

Qualification period (QP)

The qualification period began with the first NASPA rated sowpods tournament in September 2009. The qualification period ends on July 31, 2010.

Note: Tournaments that are in progress at the end of the QP will be considered to fall within the QP.

Available spots

The Canadian team will consist of five players in 2010. Should Canada be unable to field five players, the organizer will be asked to place those who are interested on one of the international teams.

Criteria (in order)

1. Top Five by NASPA Sowpods Peak Rating

  • In order to receive an automatic berth a player must be ranked in the top five Canadians by peak rating (PR). A person's PR is defined as his/her highest NASPA Sowpods rating achieved within the QP after a minimum of 12 rated games played.

The player must also satisfy one of the following two criteria:

  • Is one of the top five Canadian players as ranked by WESPA among those who have played a minimum of fifty WESPA rated games overall and twelve WESPA rated games in the eighteen months preceding the end of the QP.
  • Is one of the top five active Canadian players as ranked by the NASPA OWL ratings list. Any players using this criteria must use their highest NASPA SOWPODS rating achieved after 24 games as their PR.

Note: For the above two criteria, final ratings as of the end of the QP will be considered.

2. Remaining Spots

The remaining spots (if any) on the Canadian team will be awarded by the Canadian Committee after receiving input from those players who have qualified via PR.

Final Qualification Standings

Adam Logan , Joel Wapnick, David Boys, Ron Hoekstra, and Nick Ball have qualified to represent Canada at the Causeway Challenge 2010. Nick Ball has declined his spot. That spot has been awarded to 1991 WSC winner Peter Morris.
