A mentor director is an experienced tournament/club director who supervises an apprentice director during an apprenticeship.
As part of the director certification process, all aspiring directors begin by taking a written test, then find a mentor to supervise them until the mentor decides that they are ready to direct on their own. If an apprentice is already familiar with the club and tournament environment and temperamentally suited to becoming a director, a mentor’s supervision may consist just of being reachable for advice when needed. More often, the mentor will arrange to be present at an apprentice’s tournaments, either as an extra director or as a player.
If you are interested in volunteering to be a mentor and helping a fellow player take that big step of becoming a director, please contact the Club/Directors committee at naspa-club-directors@yahoogroups.com.
