The NASPA School Word List (2018 edition), NSWL2018, was edited by the NASPA Dictionary Committee in 2018, and incorporates changes made to the corresponding OTCWL2018 lexicon. Like its predecessors, it consists of those words that are acceptable in the regular Official Tournament and Club Word List (OTCWL) that are considered appropriate for school use. It was originally released as the School SCRABBLE Word List (SSWL), and rebranded the NASPA School Word List in 2019.
On 2019-01-30, the editor noticed the presence of the trademark verb forms VASELINED and VASELINING, and removed them from the word list. (VASELINE and VASELINES had already been removed earlier.)
For licensing reasons, this book is a members-only publication. A limited print run is available through the NASPA Store.
It is also available for personal use as a free download (password required) through NASPA Member Services.
It will be available to NASPA members for electronic study and tournament adjudication purposes in the NASPA Zyzzyva program, starting with version 3.2.0. School SCRABBLE competitors in the 2018-2019 season may apply for a complimentary season membership to gain access to this tool.
To view a list of differences between specific editions of NSWL and NWL, use Zyzzyva to search for words that are in one lexicon but not the other. There are 591 words that are in NWL2018 but not in NSWL2018; all words in NSWL2018 are in NWL2018.
The following 121 words that appeared in SSWL2016 are not in NSWL2018:
