We go into this round with Dean Saldanha (Richmond BC) now our leader with 10 wins. Evan Berofsky (Thornhill ON), Bernard Gotlieb (Cote St. Luc QC), and Tony Leah (Ajax ON) are close behind with nine wins each.

Playing at table 20, but really a board 1 game, Bernard Gotlieb (Cote St. Luc QC) lost to David Boys (Dorval QC) this round, 380-453. I saw the Q hanging out at an odd angle and straightened it out to get a shot of their board and Bernard pointed to it and said, "I got that." I see STOOLIES, SWIGgER, THUNKED, and INVADED on their board. By "getting" it, I think Bernard got stuck with it.

At table 8, David Stokoe (Windsor ON) had a good game against Fern Lindzon (North York ON). As I walked up, Fern pointed to the bingo she'd made and said, "David played sUPERBLY in this game!" He played the game's other bingos: GNATHION through the N for 78, INDUSIAL for 6, and SWAmPIER for 74. David won, 449-339.

At a table 4 matchup between Ian Bell (Waterloo ON) and Siri Tillekeratne (Calgary AB), I see three bingos by Siri: MINSTER down the triple lane for 90 followed by POLeNTA for 74 on the very next turn, and then CLINKERs for 63 to seal up his 449-293 victory.

Libero Paolella (Toronto ON) lost a heartbreaker to Mike Ryan (Vancouver BC) this round, 348-411. Libero played APERIENT down the triple lane for 83. He later got down YID, hanging the Y into the top triple lane. Sensing no real danger from a Y, Mike told me that he left it there. Libero liked that and plopped down YiELDERS from that Y to another triple for 83. Mike got down INSANEST for 70, but it was his out-bingo that won him the game. He said, "If I didn't find it, I would lose." So, holding AAERST?, he found and nestled in kARATES, creating FA/MAR/ETA for 84 and the win.

Diane watched a table 16 game between Salvatore Desiato (Toronto ON) and Teri Tetreault (Calgary AB). She saw plays for Sal: ALEXINE for 69, DISSENT for 64, RITZIER through the E for 51, and EQUATED through the T for 54. Teri played OOGONIA to the A and ENDURInG for 86. Sal won, 421-341. As I walked up, Teri said, "Short game." and Sal said, "Yeah, only eleven moves each."

At table 25, Arthur Carvalho (Dollard-des-Ormeaux QC) played STOLIDER to the R for 61, which caught Diane's eye.

Danny Panganiban (Calgary AB) played EDIFIERS and it was challenged by his opponent Trevor Sealy (Oshawa ON). It is a good word. He also got down PRIVATES and CAVITIES. Trevor played NUMBEST and lost this game 321-535. Diane thinks Trevor's bingo explains his state of mind during the game!

At Table 12, the reigning Canadian Champion, Ron Hoekstra (Kentwood, MI), fell to former champion, Joel Wapnick (Montréal QC), 340-415. I see Joel's LIFEbOAt for 78. I also see UNATONED and DECIARE.

Allan Simon (Calgary AB) reports that he's had a stasticially interesting pattern this tournament. He's been W-L-W-L-W-L-W-L (you get the drift) the whole tournament long!
