Reporting from WSC 1999, Jane Williams of the NSA...
Round 7 is just finishing up. David Boys was seated at Table One with Nigel Richards (NZ) and playing him for his first time ever. Towards the end of the game (NG had 17:57 on his clock and Boys had 4:38), Richard draws two tiles and then suddenely a V tile drops out of the bottom of the bag. They were to soon discover the tile bag had a hole in it.The Director was called over. She put the remaining tiles in another tile bag and then added the dropped V. Both players saw the letter. An odd moment. David won game shortly therafter 436 to 385.
By the way his first 4 moves were: GRACIOUS (71) S was blank
SABOTEUR (61) space after R was TWS
Next move he hooked S on SABOTEUR and made SWOP (60)
CAGIEST (25)
This defeat of Richards makes it so no one is undefeated as of now.
