CNSC 2005 Information for PlayersThis page will be updated frequently from now until the beginning of the event. Please be sure to check it before you set out for the championship. Arriving LateYou must arrive on Thursday between 08:30 and 09:15 A.M. in order to register for the event. If you are not present at 9:15 P.M., your place may be given to an alternate player. If you are delayed en route on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning, call John Chew at (416) 876-7675. The Playing VenueThis year's Championship is at the Great Hall at 1087 Queen Street West on the southeast corner of Dovercourt. Please check the directions to make sure you know how to get to the event. For the duration of the event, the Hall will be a non-smoking venue. I will check to see where the nearest permissible smoking area will be, and suspect it will be the customary vicinity of the main entrance. EquipmentI had ordered special event Protiles, and as a backup in case of a repeat of last year's logistical difficulty, have my leftover supplies from 2003. I may still owe sets to people from 2003, if that's so, I'll give them to you at registration. We will provide and ask you to use: official playing boards. We will have available for you to use if you do not prefer your own: racks and scoresheets. We ask that you bring your own: tile bags and game timers. MealsWe will be providing food at the reception Thursday night, coffee throughout the event, muffins and croissants at breakfast, cookies for the afternoon break, and lunch for finalists and staff on Saturday. A fridge for those with special dietary needs. There is a wide range of restaurants within walking distance of the Hall. RegistrationRegistration is from 8:30 to 9:15 A.M. on Thursday morning. As mentioned above, you must arrive during that time or call John at 416-876-7675 if you do not wish to be replaced by an alternate player. At registration time, you may be asked to sign a copy of the tournament rules, confirm that your NSA membership is current (and renew if not), and pick up and count your new Protiles (and possibly your old ones). Event CoverageEvent coverage will be similar to that of past years, and be provided by Sherrie Saint John, John Chew and a group of game annotators. Please encourage your club members, friends and family to follow your progress over the weekend. Please check to make sure that your biographical information, as shown for instance in the detailed roster is complete and correct, and e-mail me any addenda or errata. Guests, Visitors, Friends, Family...As at past events, guests and visitors are welcome to view the playing room and games in progress, after identifying themselves to tournament staff, and as long as they do not interfere in any way with the players. As mentioned above, please also encourage anyone interested to follow your progress throughout the championship at this web site. If your family needs to contact you in an emergency, they may do so by calling John Chew at (416) 876-7675.
