[photo of Marriott] Great news! Hasbro and the National SCRABBLE® Association are pleased to announce that the 2004 National SCRABBLE® Championship will be held Saturday, July 31 through Thursday, August 5 at the New Orleans Marriott at 555 Canal Street.

The hotel is an award winning, 41-floor, convention hotel located in the heart of New Orleans (NO) just 20 minutes from the NO International Airport or reachable by car via Interstate 10. City transit buses pass in front of the hotel and the St. Charles Avenue streetcar line can be found one block away. Taxi service from the airport is available to the hotel at $24 for one or two people and $8 for each additional; shuttle service can be arranged by travelers for $13 one way.

Besides a fabulous grand ballroom where our event will take place, the hotel also boasts a full service health club, an indoor and outdoor pool and several restaurants from a very casual coffee shop to a fine dining Riverview Restaurant complemented by an evening view of the Mississippi River. Just walk out the door and you are a few blocks from the famous Bourbon Street experience celebrating New Orleans cuisine, music and traditions at its best.

For players traveling with guests or who may have extra time before or after the event, New Orleans has several wonderful sightseeing tours ranging from an adventurous alligator swamp tours to a more traditional historic plantation one. Other important sights that may interest you are the famous Garden District, Superdome, shopping on the Riverwalk, the French market, The Audubon Aquarium or Zoo, National D-Day Museum. One thing's for sure don't miss out on theendless dining & music choices.

Each guest room, many with spectacular views of New Orleans and the Mississippi River, has data ports on the phones, high-speed Internet access, complimentary in-room coffee as well as the other usual amenities. The room rate for our event is a terrific $89 for a single or double, $119 for triple occupancy, $149 for quads. All room rates are subject to state and local taxes and players are responsible for making and paying for their own accommodations through Marriott's reservation number 800-228-9290 toll-free or locally 504-581-1000 using the "Hasbro SCRABBLE" code. As of August 2003, rooms were also available on nights preceding and following the tournament, but only if you ask the reservations agent for rooms for those nights without the "Hasbro SCRABBLE" code.

If you can't wait until next August why not whip up this classic New Orleans dish and just dream of being there next summer. Enjoy!
