Round 13 Division 1's Panupol Sujjayakorn (Thailand) had a big win against Jeff Potts (Woodland Hills, CA), 530-304. From the scoresheets, I glean that Jeff got down TRICORNE to the E for 62. Panupol, on a roll, played SHEDABLE through the E for 69, COMPLETE from the C for 80, RETAINEd through the I for 84, and PERONEAL for 64. Now well used to putting a W in column one of his scoresheet, Nigel Richards (Malaysia) had to put an L down this round, which ends his 10 in a row sweep. He lost to Zev Kaufman (Toronto ON). From what I can glean, Zev got down MESTINO and then played the double-double EXCAvATE through the T for 114. At the next table, Joel Sherman (Bronx, NY) defeated Brian Cappelletto (Chicago, IL), 486-410. Brian played POWERING on the triple line through the W for 92 and SHaDILY on another triple line for 96. Joel played LEuKOSIS through the O for 94, BASEMENT through the last S in LEuKOSIS for 78, and BEAUTIES through the A for 61. At the game's end, Brian got stuck with the Q and had to pass four times while Joel nickel & dimed out. Mark Kenas (Madison, WI) defeated Matt Graham (New York, NY), 452-440. On their board, I spot DIRIMENT (an adjective meaning "nullifying" - jjc) through the first I and PHOToING for Mark. Matt appears to have played ENISLES for 71, MOULTeR, and GALOPED down the triple for 101. |
