As of June 1st, 2021, small groups of [[Vaccinated Play |fully vaccinated players]] can participate in sanctioned tournaments and club sessions.
[[Dave Wiegand]] from Portland, OR wins the [[2009 National SCRABBLE Championship]] and receives the $10,000 grand prize.  He defeated the reigning champion [[Nigel Richards]] from Malaysia in the last two rounds today.  Both had 25 wins but Dave accumulated a superior spread (+1728 vs. +1593).  Dave also won the title in 2005.
 
 
 
Joel Wapnick, from Montreal, QC placed third in the first division.  Divisions two through five were won by Thomas Reinke from Middleton, WI, Dave Leonard from Buffalo, NY, Max Karten from Barrington, RI and Doug Szymkowiak from North Ridgeville, OH.

June 17, 2021 Removal of Participant Cap for Vaccinated Players

As of June 21st, 2021, there is no cap on the number of fully vaccinated players who can participate in sanctioned tournaments and club sessions.

May 20, 2021 Resumption of Play for Vaccinated Players

As of June 1st, 2021, small groups of fully vaccinated players can participate in sanctioned tournaments and club sessions.

April 28, 2021 NASPA Advisory Board Elections Cancelled

Members voted to postpone Advisory Board elections for a year. Terms of current members will be extended for a year.
