Round 3 Commentary

Jeff Parsons (NF) is 3-0 now and Femi Awowade (NGA) is 1-2, having just lost a game to Jeff.

I caught Adrian Mannella calculating his rating as the tournament unfolded. Sure enough, he brought a hand-held PDA with a spreadsheet function so that he could track his progress as the event unfolds. Adrian came to Chicago from London where he is working as a technical investigator.

Scott McDougall (NH) told me that he challenged the word OBJET. It is an acceptable play. He played Avis Turner this round and managed to play the double-double SINCERE for 98 points.

Ellen Levine, from division 4 is on fire. In her last game, she defeated Ernestine Jackson, 583-295. Last game Ellen scored a 497! She is 3-0.

Jane Williams combed through the challenge box and found the following acceptable challenges: JOW, DEALATES, ENATIC, GRIG, MEOU, KOS, NEEP, JUN, NAE, SEI, FUGGIEST, LARI, SWEEPIER, and GREBE. These words were challenged in rounds 1-3.
