1998 MSSC Commentary: Round 3

Lunch was a huge hit. While the students and their coaches ate, the MSSC committee cleaned up the room of cups and stray paper. The playing area was orderly for the beginning of this round.

One half of the Browne/Carson (Hillside red) duo, clad in a Hard Rock Cafe sweatshirt, opted to dress casually. His teammate, though, is in a dress shirt and tie. Their contrasting styles look great!

Good play reports are coming in. Medina/Nelson (Brookings red) just played JIBES for 40 points. Shaughnessy, Jr./Riccio (Immaculate Conception-Revere blue) hooked QUILTS for 45. Flannery/Marques (Immaculate Conception-Marlboro red), in their game against Comeau/Skinner (St. Mary Star of the Sea blue), played FAZE on a triple word score.

Table 25 challenged FANNER, it came back acceptable. I see a play of QATS for 39.

Many from Runkle's coach, Ben Loiterstein, to Gregg Foster, to Patty Hocker have been helping me get information on the site. If they weren't reading the results to me, it would have taken me two days to type them all in. I'm thankful for their help in avoiding typing errors.

At table 1, Forest Park red (Ryan/Whelan) loses a heartbreaker to Plumfield red (Dalton/Koza), 205-209. Only 4 points! Another close loss at table 4, 164-157.

At table 4, Runkle blue (Moss/Silverman) defeats Sullivan-Lowell 199-191. Tanya and Nick point out to me their winning play of KA atop NIGHT with the K on a double word score, forming KA and KNIGHT, for 40 points. Beaming, their coach, Ben Loiterstein said, "How about those two letter words, huh?!"
